Lagos Open: Attention on Quadri as main draw starts


Top seed, Aruna Quadri, will play his first game today (Wednesday) as the main draw of the ongoing ITTF World Tour takes centre stage. Although his opponent is yet to be determined as the preliminaries were still ongoing as at the time of filing this report, the Nigerian star player is expected to move to the round of 16 when he mounts Table 1 in the round of
32 matches today.
Quadri Other seeded players such as defending champion, Omar Assar, Ojo Onaolapo, Kazeem Makanjuola, Oyeniran Boboye, El-Beiali, Silva Andre and Assar Khalid will also begin their quest for the top prize today.
Last year’s runners-up and second seed in the women’s singles, Funke Oshonaike, will also play her first game today in the round of 16. The preliminaries were not concluded and her opponent was still unknown as at the time of filing this report. Edem Offiong and top seed, Egyptian Dina Mashref, will also begin the race today.

Meanwhile, 2013 winner, Cecelia Otu, boosted her chances of making it into the main draw after she defeated Yaya Sidikat 4-0 in her opening match on Tuesday. 2014 Nigeria Table Tennis Federation President Cup winner, Janet Effiom and Olaide Atinuke also won their matches and are likely to make it into the round of 16.
